Like the original Native Tongue enhanced CD (2001), this is a project through which I'm documenting my musical journey and the unique writing/playing collaborations I've had the privilege of sharing with my highly respected close musical friends through the years.

This song was originally conceived as an instrumental Latin fusion piece and started out with a lengthier form. While searching for material to develop for this project, I came across it and decided it would be a nice late addition, especially since it lent itself to a horn arrangement and I was hoping to write something with a "Chicago," Blood, Sweat & Tears," or Earth, Wind & Fire" vibe as the next track to be added to the line-up. I ran it by my collaborator and lyricist, Marcel Morejon, and he wrote some very meaningful, personal lyrics. Then we set out to create a live sound, adding live drums courtesy of Jerry O'Malley and bringing in an astounding horn section, including Julio Diaz (trumpet), Ismael Vergara (tenor sax), Jorge Dubal (trombone) (Thanks so much for bringing your Neumann mic to the session!) and Wade Judy (bass trombone) in a later session. We also put lots of time and effort into the backup vocal arrangement, with parts sung by Marcel and myself.
All my life I’ve seen so many dreams left undone
But there’s a road ahead where my hope can carry on
One last chance I’ll take to fix all that has gone wrong
Never mind the crowd, they’ll just sing their judgement song
Keepin’ on this way
There’s a price I’ll pay
I just lost my way
I was led astray
But I’m only me
Searching for a place where I can be free, yeah
Feeling out of time, the years have gone and now I see
No one’s faith to hold, this time its only up to me
And I’m taking chances that I know will lead the way
I don’t know if I’m right, but I’m sure that I can’t stay
One last chance, this day
I’ll be on my way
Though I tried to stay
I was led astray
But I’m only me
Searching for a place where I can be free
Keepin’ on this way
There’s a price I’ll pay
I just lost my way
I was led astray
But I’m only me
Searching for a place where I can be free, yeah
One last chance, this day
I’ll be on my way
Though I tried to stay
I was led astray
But I’m only me
Searching for a place where I can be free
